In spite of local uncertainties about the intensity and variability of climate change, it is urgent to initiate adaptation measures in river basin management, including transboundary basins. This publication provides guidance on how to prepare and implement a strong, realistic and operational medium-to-long-term plan for adapting to climate change through a number of case studies and “lessons learned”. This Handbook was produced jointly by GWP and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) in order to capture experiences with planning and implementing IWRM.
This Handbook is based on available literature and draws findings from relevant works wherever possible. It addresses the needs of practitioners and policymakers and is considered as a resource guide/material for practitioners and not an academic paper. It is a ‘living document’ and will be updated based on the experiences of its readers.
