Sierra Leone has officially launched a national workshop aimed at developing the country’s Climate Resilient Water Investment Programme (CRWIP) and strengthening institutional capacities for mobilizing climate finance, particularly through the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The workshop is jointly organized by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), the National Designated Authority (NDA), and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
Indonesia, 10 November 2025 — The Department of Geophysics, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), hosted a webinar titled “Jejak Peradaban Nusantara” or translated as “Traces of Nusantara Civilization” to explore the origins and legacy of Indonesia’s civilization. The event aimed to introduce the nation’s rich and genuine cultural heritage and inspire further study and adaptation of ancient wisdom for today's and future generations.
Bolgatanga, Ghana – 15 July 2025
In a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable water governance, Ghana has officially launched its National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. The initiative was formalized during a national workshop held in Bolgatanga, as part of the broader mission to establish and strengthen national and regional user coordination structures across the Volta Basin.
From September 16 to 19, 2025, a regional capacity-building workshop was held in Lomé on the water resources model and the Decision Support Tool (DST) for sustainable planning and management of the Volta River Basin. Organized as part of the REWarD – Volta River Basin project, this workshop is part of a regional effort to strengthen transboundary water governance and restore the basin’s ecosystems.
The handover ceremony took place on July 24, 2025, at the headquarters of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) in Niamey, Niger, officially marking the appointment of Mr. Kocou Armand Houanye as the institution’s new Executive Secretary.
Since its adoption in 1998 as the principal judicial law governing water resources in Cameroon, the Water Law N°98/005 of April 14, 1998, is being revised for the first time.

Online, Southeast Asia | September 16, 2025 — The Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP SEA) held its 45th Regional Steering Committee (RSC) meeting, bringing together chairs and representatives from Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) and the Global Water Partnership Organization (GWPO) to chart the way forward on water governance and financing.
On 26-27 November 2024, Bratislava welcomed youth leaders, water management experts, and key stakeholders for the DANUrely Roundtable: Empowering the Next Generation in Water Management. Hosted at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU), this two-day event united participants from across the Danube region to explore innovative solutions for water challenges and foster collaboration between generations.
From November 4 to 6, 2025, Bamako hosted a pivotal regional workshop under the REWaRD project- “Reversing Ecosystem and Water Resources Degradation Trends in the Volta Basin.” Implemented by the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and the Global Water Partnership – West Africa (GWP-WA), with support from UNEP, IUCN, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project aims to strengthen ecological resilience and participatory governance across six West African countries.
