GWP Hosts Pan Africa Water Governance and International Water Law Training

Building on the success of the previous trainings, and growing demand for knowledge and skills relevant to the preparation and financing of transboundary water projects, GWP hosted, with partners, the Pan-Africa Capacity Building Workshop on International Water Law and Water Governance: for improved practices in transboundary water investments in Africa, in Entebbe, Uganda 19-23 September 2022.

Eswatini Water Sector Stakeholders Assess Country’s Gaps in Mobilising Climate Finance

In a bit to strengthen climate resilience and secure sustainable access to water, the Kingdom of Eswatini held a high-level Capacity Needs Assessment Workshop on 9 May 2025. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs (NDA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Energy -Department of Water Affairs, with technical support from Joint River Basin Authorities Project Board and the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa as a delivery partner, the event was part of the African Union’s efforts in supporting Member States in developing Climate-Resilient Water Investment Programmes.

GWP-C Represented at PISLM’s 4th High Level Ministerial Meeting in Grenada

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) participated in the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management’s (PISLM) 4th High Level Ministerial Meeting, held on June 18, 2025, at the Radisson Resorts Grenada. During the event, GWP-C reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional efforts in sustainable water and land governance, particularly through its role in the implementation of the Caribbean Drought Initiative—one of the key undertakings of the regional Inter-Governmental Organisation, which recently signed a Headquarter Agreement with the Government of Grenada.

Indigenous knowledge and local solutions key to successful transboundary water governance

The latest Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance online event, ‘Indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters,’ was held on 15 September 2022. More than 80 participants from around the world took part in the interactive session to explore how to better involve indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters.

Fostering Water Diplomacy: Advancing ASEAN's Regional Water Security Agenda

Water, vital for sustaining life, is becoming increasingly scarce as global demand has surged tenfold over the past century. In Southeast Asia, ASEAN countries share 19 transboundary water resources, including surface and groundwater, most of which are managed bilaterally. The Mekong River Commission (MRC), formed by Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, aims to promote sustainable development, management, and conservation of the Mekong Basin. Despite growing cooperation, challenges remain, such as the lack of legal frameworks for managing shared aquifers and the absence of cooperation mechanisms beyond the Mekong region. Water diplomacy provides a vital approach, offering strategies to address disputes and foster joint water governance through political processes that extend beyond traditional water agreements.
