This paper presents a coherent discussion of the concept of water governance and its relation to water management and development. It is aimed at water professionals who need to be familiar with issues of governance as they strive to work outside the water sector. This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) is committed to providing educational material for the region to promote the principles of IWRM and recognises that access to information is very important.

The GWP Technical Committee consists of internationally recognised professionals selected for their experience in different disciplines relating to integrated water resources management.

The Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) Regional Office is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is hosted by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI)

Côte d’Ivoire is situated by the coast of the North Atlantic Ocean, bordering Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Guinea and Liberia. It has a tropical climate along the coast and semiarid in the far north. Its climate can be divided into three seasons: warm and dry (November to March), hot and dry (March to May), hot and wet (June to October). The country is very rich in natural resources and has large reserves of, among others, petroleum, natural gas, diamonds, cobalt, gold, coffee and palm oil.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day technical, communication, financial and administrative affairs of GWP-C.
