The UNDP-GEF Project “Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African Small Island Developing States (African SIDS), through the African Union Commission and GWPSA, participated in an IW: Learn Twinning Exchange organised as part of the Global Environment Facility International Waters (GEF IW): LEARN 5 initiatives to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between International Waters projects across regions. The exchange activities took place in Colombia and Belize from 27 October to 4 November 2025.

Koudougou, August 7, 2025 — As part of the REWarD Volta River Basin project, Burkina Faso has taken a decisive step forward by establishing its National Coordination Committee for Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. This initiative is part of the regional objective to structure, represent, and recognize users in each of the basin countries in order to strengthen their role in natural resource governance.
As the world faces the challenges of climate change, population growth, and urbanisation, GWP’s 2022 Network Meeting of Partners centred around the question, 'how can we push innovation in water?' “You will get some ideas from us, but what is more important is the voice from our Partners,” said GWP’s Executive Secretary and CEO Darío Soto-Abril, as more than 320 participants joined from 95 countries.
2025: The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will convene representatives from its Member States, River Basin Organizations (RBOs), Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs), development partners, civil society, International Cooperating Partners (ICPs), and financial institutions for the inaugural Transboundary Water and Landscapes Sustainable Finance Bootcamp.
As part of the WMO's technical assistance to the project to strengthen climate resilience in Burkina Faso (HYDROMET-BF Project), GWP- WA has coordinated the raising of awareness of hydrometeorological risks and impacts at the end of June 2025.
