African SIDS Project Joins Global Engagements on Advancing Collaborative Ocean Solutions

The UNDP-GEF Project “Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African Small Island Developing States (African SIDS), through the African Union Commission and GWPSA, participated in an IW: Learn Twinning Exchange organised as part of the Global Environment Facility International Waters (GEF IW): LEARN 5 initiatives to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between International Waters projects across regions. The exchange activities took place in Colombia and Belize from 27 October to 4 November 2025.

Nationwide protests led by Gen Z in Nepal

Beginning on 8 September 2025, Nepal witnessed widespread protests and demonstrations, primarily organised by Gen Z students and youth. While the immediate trigger was a nationwide ban on social media platforms, the unrest was rooted in deeper frustrations—corruption, wealth disparity, and mismanagement of public funds by government officials. These long-standing grievances quickly escalated into violent confrontations, targeting public officials and the properties of political elites.

Cameroon Advances SDG 6.5.1 with New IWRM Action Plan

Following the 2023 third round of reporting on target 6.5.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which monitors the level of implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management, Cameroon recorded an overall “medium- low” score of 49% and outlined challenges hindering the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 by 2030. To address these challenges, an SDG 6.5.1 Stage 2 programme is underway in the country, implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and supported by UNEP-DHI and the Global Water Partnership. Under this Stage 2 programme, the government will elaborate a National IWRM Plan which outlines strategies to foster climate-resilient water management in the country.
