GWP-WA signed on February 19, 2021 with the Regional Office of the IUCN Program for Central and West Africa (IUCN-PACO) an agreement to support the implementation in 2021 of the project titled "Regional Partnership on Water and Environment in Central and West Africa (PREE)", with the financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The SADC Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus Governance Framework, that was developed by SADC with technical assistance from GWPSA, was approved in a joint meeting held by the Ministers responsible for Energy and Water from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on the 30th October 2020 through video conferencing, hosted by the Republic of Mozambique.
GWP-WA through the Country Water Partnership of Benin (PNE Benin), organized together with the General Directorate of the National Fund for Environment and Climate (FNEC) of the Ministry of the Living Environment and Sustainable Development (MCVDD) the Benin Stakeholders' Workshop on the formulation of the Country Water Climate Development and Gender Equality (AIP WACDEP G 2020-2022) on October 28 and 29, 2020. The main objective of the workshop was to develop the Benin draft document for the AIP WACDEP- G Program 2020-2022.
To commemorate the 2022 International Women’s Day which is celebrated under the theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, GWP -Central Africa spotlights three women who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all. Increase risk knowledge through the risk maps and climate scenarios developed, to get the involvement and engagement of stakeholders through an improved awareness of disaster risk assessment and risk modelling for floods and droughts in the Volta basin, this is the general objective of the series of 6 national workshops organized in the Volta basin riparian countries throughout the month of April 2022.
The 2021 edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) will take place on 15-16 June. The event is fully digital, and the theme is "The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future". On the first day, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, which GWP coordinates in partnership with UNEP, UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net UNDP, will be featured in a session on "Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to accelerate progress on the SDGs".
