The environmental Art competition, “Danube Art Master” is delighted to have received a surprisingly large number of artworks submitted in 2020, despite taking place under truly exceptional circumstances.

Maximin Djondo is the Executive Director of Benin Environment and Education Society (BEES). For the past 15 years, he has implemented projects in the West Africa region to support national and international strategies and policies related to the sustainable use of wetland and coastal ecosystems resources. The COVID-19 pandemic has arisen an issue on how we should cope with Water-Related Disaster under such situation. To this end, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) with the support from the Government of Japan, has developed and is promoting a Guideline for addressing water-related disaster risk reduction under the COVID-19 pandemic. The HELP Group through the Global Water Partnership (GWP) network launched an initiative to hold consultations on those Guidelines in three CACENA countries (Uzbekistan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan).

The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) convenes the 2020 edition of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from Tuesday 7 July to Thursday 16 July. The event will mainly be in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with some limited events held for New York-based participants.

In the framework of the implementation of the activities of the integrity action plans in the Communes, a workshop to strengthen the capacities of communal actors was organized and brought together about forty actors. Participants include water, hygiene and sanitation managers, members of the Drinking Water Consumers' Associations (ACEP), those of the Citizen Participation Unit (CPC), the Heads of Development and Planning Services (C/SDLP), the Heads of Communication Services (C/com) and the Heads of Administration and Finance.

On 16 November, the Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train stopped at its last destination for this year. Participants had the chance to learn about water diplomacy and negotiation, as well as the tools and methods that can be used to peacefully settle conflicts over shared waters.

The event hosted over 40 participants and a lively discussion on various floodplain-related topics.

Water Europe is moving forward with an all-digital edition of its annual conference Water Innovation Europe (WIE) 2020. It will be an online ‘Innovative Water Week’ 22-26 June, with online plenary sessions, digital working group meetings, digital networking and digital exhibition opportunities.
