The Caribbean Science Symposium on Water by the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C), takes place virtually on March 23rd – 25th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST) on each day. The theme of the event is “Building Resilience in the Regional Water Sector to Address Climatological and Hydrological Risks and Threats.”

The concept of gender mainstreaming in water resources management is not new, but we are not advancing at the pace we need. Why is that? How can countries accelerate progress towards gender mainstreaming in water resources management?

The members of the Steering Committee of the Regional Partnership Project on Water and Environment in Central and West Africa (PREE), met in Ouagadougou on June 10, 2020, for their 2nd session.

Albania has just started implementing new technologies aimed at improving wastewater management and as such promoting sustainable development. A two-day workshop on Wastewater Management in the context of Circular Economy that was organised in the framework of the SEE Nexus project in July in Albania provided participants with theoretical input but also first hand experience on the issue.

Stakeholders from the political sphere, scientists, activists, and professionals that participated at the online workshop “Gender dimensions in the sustainable management of natural resources through a Nexus approach in the Drina River Basin” acknowledged the fact that women are disproportionately affected by natural disasters and should have a more active role in decision making on environmental issues.

Mr. Malik Fida A. Khan is the Executive Director of the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) in Bangladesh. In this interview he shares an overview of the Center and its collaboration with GWP.

In the early 2000s it was clear to the citizens and municipality of the megacity of Karachi, Pakistan, that nothing short of stakeholder empowerment would be sufficient to overcome the urban water management problems facing the city.  The result was the GWP-supported Karachi Water Partnership, which has successfully served as a platform for collective action by citizens, government, and the private sector to better manage water resources.
