Capacity Building Workshop on Wastewater management in the context of a Circular Economy

Albania has just started implementing new technologies aimed at improving wastewater management and as such promoting sustainable development. A two-day workshop on Wastewater Management in the context of Circular Economy that was organised in the framework of the SEE Nexus project in July in Albania provided participants with theoretical input but also first hand experience on the issue.

The #TFTC project in the three implementing countries

The implementation of the activities of phase 2 of the TonFuturTonClimat project is continuing in Burkina Faso, Benin and Togo with funding from the Government of Quebec, GWP, Swiss Cooperation, Agence de l'Eau Picardie. The implementation is done in the countries through the CWPs in Burkina and Benin as well as the NGO YVE in Togo under the regional coordination of the International Secretariat for Water (ISW) and GWP-WA.

New blueprint for climate-resilient, participatory Water-Energy-Food Nexus solutions being developed by H2020 REXUS Project

GWP-Med is leading the communication and dissemination component in this new H2020 project which aims to close the gap between science and policy in natural resources management. The REXUS project is bringing the Water-Energy-Food Nexus concept to an operational level as a tool for analysis, planning and decision-making, through an innovative integrated approach applied in 5 pilot sites across Europe and Latin America.

WMO Data Conference

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Data Conference is held as a virtual event on 16-19 November. It aims to develop a common understanding among entities from all sectors of society of the roles, requirements and arrangements for international exchange of observations and other data for monitoring and prediction of the Earth System environment, including weather, climate and water.

Six New Members Join GWP Steering Committee

In December 2020, GWP welcomed six new members on its Steering Committee, adding to seven members who have served longer. The Committee acts as a Board of Directors for the GWP Network and the GWP Organisation (GWPO). The members rotate every three or six years. Now, for the first time, a Permanent Youth Seat has been added. Jamilla Sealy from Barbados is the new representative on this seat. “Being the first youth, and also being a female of African descent and from the Caribbean, which are often under-represented in the global sphere, makes it a humbling experience”, she says about her appointment.

Improving Water Management in COVID Times

The United Nations system designated 2020 as the year in which most of the indicators under Sustainable Development Goal 6 on water and sanitation were to be updated. GWP, through its SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, committed to assisting at least 60 countries in mapping out progress on SDG 6.5.1 – the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Despite the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, about 2,400 participants in 61 countries were consulted, mostly online.

Guinea to develop IWRM action Plan

The Country Water Partnership of Guinea (PNEGUI) took part on September 30, 2021, in the scoping workshop for the development of the national action plan for integrated water resources management (PAGIRE).
