In a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable water governance, Ghana has officially launched its National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. The initiative was formalized during a national workshop held in Bolgatanga, as part of the broader mission to establish and strengthen national and regional user coordination structures across the Volta Basin.
Malawi's Ministry of Water and Sanitation has launched three strategic response plans to address systemic bottlenecks and resource constraints impending the sustainable management of water resources and the delivery of inclusive, resilient WASH services in the sector.
The updating of the Communication Strategy together with the Action Plan 2018-2020 of the Volta Basin Authority (VBA), has been integrated into the Implementation Plan of the Project "Reversing the Trends of Ecosystem and Water Resources Degradation in the Volta Basin (REWarD - Volta River Basin)", financed by the GEF and executed by the VBA and GWP-WA in close collaboration with UNEP and IUCN.

The 2024 Pan Africa Water Governance and International Water Law (IWL) Training which will be held on 9-12 December 2024 in Entebbe, Uganda in a hybrid format will help participants gain skills and knowledge needed to develop effective agreements and promote stronger cooperation over shared water resources across Africa.
In line with Article VI of its Constitution, the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) convened its 15th Consulting Partners (CP) Meeting on 20 June 2025. As the highest decision-making platform of the GWPSA Partnership, the CP Meeting brought together Country Water Partnerships and Regional Partners to fulfil statutory obligations, reflect on progress, and engage in dialogue on the path ahead.
The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) played a key role in the Drought Resilience +10 Conference held from 30 September to 2 October 2024 in Geneva. Building on the outcomes of the first High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policies in 2013, the conference focused on accelerating actions to build drought resilience worldwide. It gathered countries, experts, and practitioners to review progress in drought management and outline a collective path forward.
On January 23, 2025, following a collaborative effort led by GWP China and UNICEF China, the Programme of Engaging Youth and Children Innovators in Change for a Sustainable Future in Water and Climate was finalized during a review session, witnessed by youth innovators and partner organizations.
BGFIBank Centrafrique is underway to becoming the first Green Climate Fund Accredited entity in the Central African Republic, thanks to the AU-AIP GCF Multi-country Readiness programme which kicked off in the country in February 2025.
