The GWP-WA Steering Committee met for its second session of 2024 and reviewed progress on the year's work plan, the work plan and budget for 2025, while discussing the financial and institutional challenges facing the GWP network.
The stakeholders in the implementation of the project "Real-time mapping of flood risk in Mali based on rainfall forecasts, remote sensing and deep learning" met on 06 February 2025 to validate the report on the outcome of the mission to map the risk/impact of flooding and implement hydrological models in the commune of Koula in the Koulikoro district of Mali. The meeting brought together stakeholders from Mali in the conference room of the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH), as well as regional and GWP-AO experts online.
On May 20, 2025, GWP China played host to a thematic seminar titled "Integrated Water Resources Management and Green Development of Hydropower," convened by the 28th Congress of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) and the 93rd Annual Meeting, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
African leaders, water experts, development partners, and regional institutions have reaffirmed the urgent need to strengthen cooperation and investment in Africa’s shared water resources during the Continental Level Consultation and Exchange Event on Transboundary Water Cooperation, held from 17 to 18 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The session coordinated by GWP-WA was held on Thursday 23 May 2024 at the Senegal Pavilion during the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia. Facilitated by the GWP-WA Chair, Mr Abdoulaye SENE, it featured the distinguished visits of the Senegalese Minister for Water and Sanitation, Dr Cheick Tidiane DIEYE, and the Executive Secretary/CEO of GWPO, Mr Alan ATKISSOON.
Small holder farmers and pastoralists in Djibouti are increasingly exposed to climate risks, with recurrent droughts that continue to threaten food security and livelihoods. To help address this challenge, especially in the IGAD region, the DRESSEA project, funded by the Adaptation Fund through the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and implemented regionally by Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa (GWPEA), is supporting: Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda to produce regular, impact based drought bulletins.
Montenegro has launched the second integrated training workshop on Climate Finance Programming and Water-Sector Resilience, advancing national capacity under the Green Climate Fund Readiness Project to strengthen climate resilience in the water sector.
On 26-27 November 2024, Bratislava welcomed youth leaders, water management experts, and key stakeholders for the DANUrely Roundtable: Empowering the Next Generation in Water Management. Hosted at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU), this two-day event united participants from across the Danube region to explore innovative solutions for water challenges and foster collaboration between generations.
