GWP Network Meeting Adopts New Strategic Directions

GWP held its annual Network Meeting on 25-26 June 2019. Following last year’s success, the meeting was held in a Follow the Sun format – a 29-hour long, online meeting of back-to-back sessions with all GWP regions. A big topic was the new GWP Strategy 2020-2025, which is due to be launched shortly – the meeting adopted the network's new strategic directions.

The Mono Basin Authority (MBA) visits GWP-WA Secretariat

A four-member delegation of the Mono Basin Authority (MBA) had a working visit to the GWP-WA Regional Secretariat on March 17, 2021 including the Executive Director, Mr. Nicolas Dadja GNAKPAOU, the Deputy Director, Mr. Razaki SANOUSSI, the two country Focal Points, Mr. Phillipe Armand ADJOMAYI and Mr. Wohou AKAKPO respectively for Benin and Togo.

Multi-stakeholder Position Paper on the new Indonesian Water Bill

Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia and its partners in Indonesia successfully formulated a position paper on the inclusion of community-based water and sanitation program for the Water Resources Law Draft of the Republic of Indonesia. The paper was presented and accepted by the Parliament after series of meetings and workshop co-organized by GWP-SEA together with Unicef Indonesia, Center for Regulation Policy and Governance (CRPG), and Jejaring AMPL (Indonesia’s Water and Sanitation Networks). The discussions that were held on September 2018 involved civil societies, non-governmental organizations, government representatives, academics, related partners, and mass media.

Guljamal Nurmuhamedova: I Am Part of My Family

“Water in our region – where 98% consists of desert – means much more than anywhere else. It is an interesting subject, with an interesting expert community – and it is also the subject of interest to various players. My female ancestors lived under very hard pressure, but they were leaders, and they passed this gen on to me”, says Guljamal Nurmuhamedova, Regional Coordinator for GWP Central Asia and Caucasus (CACENA). In celebration of International Women's Day (IWD2020) she shares the story of the females in her family, which shaped her own destiny: “I am part of my family”.

Africa is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change due to a number of interlinked challenges, including land degradation, poverty, and extreme weather events. The continent also has a low adaptive capacity, in part due to financial and technical constrains, and a heavy reliance on rain-fed agriculture.

GWP-WA Assembly of Partners: National and Regional Partners congratulate and encourage the Chair and Executive Secretariat

GWP West Africa held its statutory meetings in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 23 to 26 September on the theme "Accelerating progress in IWRM implementation to achieve water-related SDGs in West Africa: challenges, innovative approaches and roles of partnerships". These include the meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee on 23 September; the Steering Committee on 24 September 2019; and the Assembly of Partners (AP) on 26 September 2019. On 25 September, the regional dialogue was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Burkina Faso, the ECOWAS Water Resources Management Centre and the West African Monetary and Economic Union (UEMOA).
