Integrity workshop: new tools experienced at local level in Benin

During the first quarter of 2013, CWP-Benin was busy with the final work (technical and financial reports, project final report; capitalization report) of the Multiannual program to support Water and sanitation sector (PPEA) phase I implemented by CWP-Benin which was completed in December 2012. Similarly, the CWP has also participated actively in the formulation and the launching of phase 2 of the program which will run over three years from 2013 to 2015.

Transboundary: Water Governance and Implementation of IWRM through Local Community Action in the Tacaná Watersheds; Guatemala & Mexico (#424)

Wathersheds of Tacana originate on the volcano, with both shared by Guatemala and Mexico. This region is of great strategic importance for both countries since they supply water to a large number of residents in the cities located downstream and are the main source of irrigation water for agriculture. In the lower reaches, fishing is an important source of income.

GWPSA has also been tasked by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Water Division with the organisation of the SADC Multi-stakeholder Water Dialogues for the past five years. The dalogues have been held under the general tag of "Watering development in SADC"

Transboundary organization in the Niger River Basin (#46)

The Niger River basin is of importance to the region. The Niger Basin Authority was established to foster, promote and co-ordinate studies and programs relating to the Niger River basin. Today the authority is required to promote co-operation among the member countries and to ensure integrated development of its resources. This case illustrates and provides key insights into transboundary river basin management.

Water Efficiency for Central America

Many climate change models predict that increasing temperatures, droughts, heavy precipitation and other extreme climatic events will have severe impacts on family farmers. Yields might be reduced by up to 50 percent in dry regions at the same time as family farming continues to be the basis unit of the agricultural economy in developing countries.

Community of Practice on Water Research Impact and Uptake Established

GWP SA joined approximately 38 other stakeholders on 12-13 March 2014 at the Lombardy Hotel in Pretoria in absorbing discussions that looked at Water Research Impact and Uptake. The workshop was hosted by the Water Resource Commission and the International Water Management Institute, Southern Africa to chiefly explore the complexities and responsibilities of research impact and uptake.

Seminar of Liaison Officers of Foreign Affairs

The seminar of liaison officers who are responsible for foreign affairs, and overseas visits, organized by the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources, was taken place on November 14 and 15, 2012, Changshu, Jiangsu Province.
