The recent article in Svenska Dagbladet on 19 October, reporting on GWP’s finances, presents a biased and incorrect picture of the organisation. The article fails to take into account the major shift in development aid financing generally that has also affected GWP, and it does not report on the extensive development of programme and project financing that GWP has secured in recent years.
Koudougou, August 7, 2025 — As part of the REWarD Volta River Basin project, Burkina Faso has taken a decisive step forward by establishing its National Coordination Committee for Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. This initiative is part of the regional objective to structure, represent, and recognize users in each of the basin countries in order to strengthen their role in natural resource governance.
Countries sharing transboundary river basins often have conflicting demands over the available amount of water to be divided among them. Reaching an agreement often relies on available water data and forecasting.
