The Regional Climate Weeks 2021 starts on 3-4 March with “Virtual Regional Roundtables” for all regions that are holding climate weeks in 2021. The regions are Africa (ACW2021), Asia-Pacific and Latin America (APCW2021) and the Caribbean (LACCW2021). The initial roundtables in March will set the scene in terms of regional priorities, challenges and opportunities for climate action.

On 29-31 March, a global workshop will be organised to take a holistic perspective on the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events on water resource management, both at national and transboundary level, and on water supply and sanitation systems and ultimately people's health.

Responding to the demand expressed by Mediterranean countries to accelerate access to GCF opportunities for adaptation projects, the 2nd Technical Workshop on GCF Project Preparation for Transformational Cli-mate Resilience Water Projects in the Mediterranean, with emphasis on Gender objectives and require-ments, was organised online, on Thursday, 11 February 2021, 09:30-12:30 CET.

GWP and Wuhan International Water Law Academy are co-organisers of a 6-part series called the "Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train." The second session took place on 16 February on “Ecosystems, International Law, and Transboundary Water Cooperation”. The event gathered over 100 participants, led by a panel of international experts who agreed that ecosystems protection has been gaining increased political acceptance and technical understanding in recent years.

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater. For the 2021 edition, UN-Water is leading a campaign about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource. The conversations gathered will inform a report about what water means to people around the world.

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated globally on 8 March every year. The aim is to highlight women's achievements and promote gender equality. The 2021 theme is "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.”

GWP and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) are co-organising an online event on 24 February to launch a perspectives paper which intends to inspire discussion within the water and development community on the role of storage in managing water and building resilience.

Maximin Djondo is the Executive Director of Benin Environment and Education Society (BEES). For the past 15 years, he has implemented projects in the West Africa region to support national and international strategies and policies related to the sustainable use of wetland and coastal ecosystems resources. The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Water Energy Food (WEF) Regional Governance Framework is expected to strengthen WEF Nexus governance in the region. The Framework together with the web- based regional investment project screening and appraisal tool form part of the milestones achieved during the first phase of the WEF Nexus Project implemented from January 2017 to December 2019. The WEF Nexus Phase One has also been key to promoting the WEF Nexus agenda in the SADC region, attracting high-level political buy-in in the region and interest beyond the SADC region.
