Through the Directorate of Water in Sao Tome and Principe, the Sao Tome and Principe Country Water Partnership (GWP STP) is supporting the implementation of a European Union (EU) funded reform program for the water sector in Sao Tome and Principe through several community outreach activities with women at the forefront.
The ad-hoc Steering Committee for the Nexus activities in the Drina River Basin under the SEE Nexus Project, supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), had its first online meeting on 15 October 2020. Representatives from the Ministries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia relevant to the water, energy and environment sectors, were informed about and commented on the project’s objectives and planned activities in the basin.
August 31, 2020 – Enhancing water security between nations has become an imperative with water use in river basins surpassing sustainable limits and roughly 60% of the world’s freshwater resources crossing national borders. As a response, a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) aims to deliver the skills and knowledge for water cooperation. GEF IW:LEARN has been driving the development of the MOOC, coordinated and produced by Global Water Partnership (GWP), and with contributions from leading organisations.
All behavioral change needs motivation from the inside – this is true both for people and organisations – and change is impossible until old belief systems and stereotypes die away, says GWP Senior Gender & Social Inclusion Specialist Liza Debevec. On 25 March 2021, GWP-Med organised a training on the newly developed Drin Information Management System. It was attended by 17 representatives from related ministries, institutions, local governments, NGOs and international organizations active within the Drin basin.
As part of its implementation plan, the African Center of Excellence for Water and Sanitation (C2EA) has planned the organization of short training sessions on IWRM for the benefit of technical executives from Benin's mayors, prefectures and private companies working in the water sector.
