As part of the implementation of the Governance component of the OmiDelta program (VGO) ANE Fund, CWP-Benin will support young people to help stakeholders (municipalities, civil society, managers, etc.) in the collection of information on the management of the Public Water Service (PWS) that can enable them to improve the service provided to the population.

The first phase of the project TonFuturTonClimat (Your future your Climate) has ended with overall good outcomes in all the countries (Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo). A final meeting was held in Cotonou, Benin on 10 and 11 November 2020 to capitalize on the main outcomes of the pilot actions carried out and draw lessons learned.

The concept of gender mainstreaming in water resources management is not new, and while the ambition is clear, we are not advancing at the pace we need. Why is that? How can countries accelerate progress towards gender mainstreaming in water resources management?

Maximin Djondo is the Executive Director of Benin Environment and Education Society (BEES). For the past 15 years, he has implemented projects in the West Africa region to support national and international strategies and policies related to the sustainable use of wetland and coastal ecosystems resources. In this interview, he shares an overview of BEES and its collaboration with GWP.

Facilitated by the Central African Republic Country Water Partnership (CWP-CAR) , Central African Republic is the first country in the region to hold a stakeholder consultation workshop to validate the national monitoring report on indicator 6.5.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Water resources Development and GWP-CAR on July 1st,2020 in Bangui.

GWP, GEF IW:Learn and partners are launching a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security” at the end of August 2020. The tentative start date is 31 August. The timing coincides with the start of the school year – giving educators the opportunity to build the MOOC into their curricula. One of the MOOC lecturers is Dr Jackie King, who shares a video message on why the MOOC is more relevant than ever. She says that “we are learning the hard way that everything is connected.”

A 3-part webinar series is held in February and March to strengthen climate and water linkages in national climate action plans such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and various investment mechanisms. The series is jointly organised by Cap-Net, UNDP, AGWA, SIWI, Water Governance Facility and GWP. It is the second webinar series organised on the theme water and climate - the first round of webinars were held in July 2020.
