The "SDG6.5.1 Evaluation and Application Research at County Level" Programme is jointly hosted by the Global Water Partnership China (GWP China), the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China Country Office, and Coca-Cola China. Officially launched in January 2025, the Programme is implemented over a one-year period with the support of local authorities in Sichuan and Hunan provinces.
Following Mali and Benin, Côte d'Ivoire has established its National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin (CNU). The event took place on 25 July 2025 at the end of a national workshop held in Bouna in the Bounkani region within the national portion of the basin in Côte d'Ivoire.
The West Africa Regional Water Partnership (GWP-WA) held its 12th Ordinary Assembly of Partners (AP) under the theme: “Supporting Water Valorization to Transform West Africa.”
This strategic meeting, organized via videoconference, brought together 35 partners from public institutions, regional organizations, NGOs, the private sector, and technical and financial partners.
On November 26, the 27th Drin Core Group meeting in Skopje reviewed progress on the Drin Memorandum of Understanding, the Strategic Action Programme, and the GEF Drin II project, highlighting synergies and emerging challenges.
Bangkok, Thailand | December 10, 2025 - Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) underscored the importance of translating SDG monitoring into concrete action during the Pan-Asia Training on International Water Law, held at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP). The event brought together regional water and legal experts to assess progress on SDG Target 6.5, with a focus on integrated water resources management (IWRM) and transboundary cooperation
The UNDP-GEF Project “Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African Small Island Developing States (African SIDS), through the African Union Commission and GWPSA, participated in an IW: Learn Twinning Exchange organised as part of the Global Environment Facility International Waters (GEF IW): LEARN 5 initiatives to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between International Waters projects across regions. The exchange activities took place in Colombia and Belize from 27 October to 4 November 2025.
During the Horizon Europe SpongeWorks second General Assembly, participants were updated about the project's achievements, witnessed first hand the implementation of sponge measures in the French demonstrator and provided input on the way forward. GWP-Med received the Outreach and Impact award for its impactful communication of the project's activities.
