The 26th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium will take place on 29-31 October 2025, hosted in a hybrid format coordinated from Ciela Resort, Lusaka, Zambia. 17 June is the UN World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, also called Desertification and Drought Day (DDD). To mark the day, UNCCD, EOTEC DevNet, and GWP are co-organising a webinar on 18 June focused on showcasing collaborative approaches to tackling drought challenges. This webinar entitled, "United for Earth: Collaborative Strategies Against Drought” represents a crucial step in our collective efforts to combat land degradation and enhance resilience in drought-affected regions.
The African SIDS Blue Economy Project, a joint initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP, and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, under the leadership of the African Union Commission as the focal custodian of the project, was showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Africa Blue Economy Week took place from 23 to 25 September 2025.
Over 70 representatives from fifteen African Union Member States gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from the 13 - 14 February 2025 for a training on AU Guidelines for the development of National Climate Resilient Water Investment Programmes. The training was part of the build-up to the 2025 AU-AIP Water Investment Summit which South Africa will host in the context of the G20 Presidency, and the 2026 UN Water Conference to be co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal.
On 2 April 2025, the first of a series of webinars under the DANURELY-WS (Danube Youth Leadership for Water Security) project took place. The online event, organized by the Water Research Institute (VÚVH, Slovakia) in collaboration with GWP CEE, focused on the topic of youth involvement in improving water quality in the Danube region.
