Bolgatanga, Ghana – 15 July 2025
In a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable water governance, Ghana has officially launched its National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. The initiative was formalized during a national workshop held in Bolgatanga, as part of the broader mission to establish and strengthen national and regional user coordination structures across the Volta Basin.
To increase the country's capacity to take practical steps to address and manage water scarcity under the pressure of rapid population growth and in a changing climate, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, and Ministry of Public Works and Housing held the Water Accounting Roadmap (WARM) third workshop.

The Conference of the Parties, at its sixteenth session held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2-13 December 2024), invited GWP to serve as a technical partner in the continuous development of existing Drought Monitoring and Early Warning Systems. This decision acknowledges GWP as a strong global player in drought management.
The "Zero Drop" water resources protection program, implemented by Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) in collaboration with the Municipality of Heraklion, with funding from The Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company, traveled to Heraklion, Crete to save 14.5 million liters of water annually by improving irrigation and water supply systems at five locations.
The African Union Commission has trained representatives of Ministries of Water from African Union (AU) Member States in developing Climate Resilient Water Investment Programmes and Green Climate Fund Projects. The training which preceded the AU-AIP Water Investment Summit, took place from 11 to 12 August 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa.
