National Workshop to Amend the Methodological Guide for the Mono Basin Water Charter

As part of the “Regional Initiative for Water and Environment in the Transboundary Mono River Basin (RIWE-Mono, 2024–2028)”, the Mono Basin Authority (MBA), in collaboration with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and the Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA), organized on September 22, 2025, a national workshop dedicated to amending the draft report of the Methodological Guide for the development and implementation of the Mono Basin Water Charter.

African Blue Deal partners meet to set steps forward for sustainable financing of IWRM, 7 until 12 July 2024 in Mombasa, Kenya

GWP Eastern Africa Regional coordinator George Sanga joined participants from the Netherlands and 7 Africa countries (Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa), and Dutch Blue Deal partners for a workshop on sustainable financing of Integrated Water Resource Management. He shared the GWPEA experience with implementing the SDG6 IWRM Support Program on how the Blue Deal program can replicate the Matchmaking Initiative pilot in Kenya to mobilize financial resources in target countries. These topics of water pricing, nature-based solutions, financial opportunities were discussed and an interesting excursion gave insights into the challenges of a local WRUA (Water Resources Users Association) in implementation of a Mangrove restauration project on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Yellow River Science Reaches Rural Areas

On September 29, 2025, the National Science Month event, "Agriculture and Water Conservancy: One Family, Yellow River Science Reaches Rural Areas," organized by GWP China Yellow River Basin Water Partnership and the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research (YRIHR), was successfully held.

Roadmap towards reversing Biodiversity Loss in the Pungwe River Basin Ecosystems -a lifeline for People, Wildlife, and the Economy

The Pungwe River basin, shared by Zimbabwe and Mozambique, is rich in plant and animal diversity. However, the ecosystem is now under threat from human activities. In 2023, Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) commissioned an Environmental Flow (EFlows) assessment to understand how the Pungwe River Basin and its ecosystems work, the findings of which will help in managing the river and protecting its natural environment.
