Growing out of the first Earth Day in 1970, EARTHDAY.ORG is working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet. A number of events are planned for this year's edition.
With hand-washing as one of the top recommendations to hinder the spread of COVID-19, the lack of access to clean water and sanitation in many parts of the world is being reported on extensively in media. Water management, and in particular the impact of climate change on water resources, has come to the fore. In recent years, GWP has collaborated with UNICEF on this issue, developing a Strategic Framework for Climate Resilience and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), including a Help Desk that is being developed to support users of the Framework.
On the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2021, we asked three young Green Entrepreneurs, from the Ghar El Melh wetland area of Tunisia, to describe how their personal and business vision is connected to wetlands.
"Millions of lives could be at risk if we don’t take the water crisis and global warming more seriously" was among the key closing messages of the 2019 World Water Week (25-30 August, Stockholm), organised by SIWI. Many of the Week’s 250+ sessions showcased water-related solutions to global challenges such as climate change and food scarcity. More than 4000 participants from 138 countries called upon governments, institutions and stakeholders including the private sector, to improve water management and practically implement available solutions to critical water challenges.
We are happy to introduce the GWP Water Academy for Youth (W.A.Y.). The GWP W.A.Y. is an opportunity for young professionals to realise their potential in the water community, become influencers and leaders, create momentum with key actors, and enhance youth engagement and empowerment in water resources management. The first global activity is a joint GWP, CAP-NET, University of Andres/UNESCO online course, “From Learning to Leading: Beyond the ABCs of Youth, Water, and the SDGs.” Registration opens on 17 August and the course is free.
The COVID-19 pandemic has arisen an issue on how we should cope with Water-Related Disaster under such situation.
To this end, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) with the support from the Government of Japan, has developed and is promoting a Guideline for addressing water-related disaster risk reduction under the COVID-19 pandemic. The HELP Group through the Global Water Partnership (GWP) network launched an initiative to hold consultations on those Guidelines in three CACENA countries (Uzbekistan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan).
In Autumn 2019, GWP CEE and emerging young water leaders organized 8 National Dialogues between youth and decision-makers in 8 Central and Eastern European countries.
As a prelude to the launch of the TFTC Phase 2 at country level, CWP-Benin organized on May 26 an information session for the communal actors of Tanguiéta on the content of the project.
