The Asia Pacific Water Scarcity Programme (WSP) has been implementing core activities in Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam over the past year. FAO is bringing together all technical stakeholders involved in the WSP for a Regional Technical Workshop on Water Scarcity to take stock of progress, review the WSP approach, and gain stakeholder insights on the best ‘way forward.’
Kara, 13 August 2025 — Following in the footsteps of Mali, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso, Togo has taken a major step forward in participatory governance of the Volta Basin. Following a national workshop held in Kara, the country officially established a National Coordination of Natural Resource Users, thereby demonstrating its commitment to sustainable, inclusive and concerted management of the basin's resources.
On 17 December 204 Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) held its 6th webinar series of Innovative Solutions for Water Secure and Sustainable Development webinar series, focusing on remediation of The Tukad Rangda River and the surrounding areas in The City of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia with 85 attendees online.
The Ministry of Water of Tanzania, the Wami Ruvu Basin Water Board and GWP, on behalf of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, have been collaborating to understand the economic value of water for Tanzania, and will be presenting the results in a public hybrid format, online and in-person at select sites.
The Adaptation Fund has approved the full project proposal for the “Integrated Water Resources Management and Early Warning System for Climate Resilience in the Lake Chad Basin”.
The Global Water Partnership China (GWP China) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) co-hosted the inaugural event for the SDG6.5.1 Evaluation and Application Research at County Level Programme.
Funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the GWL in a Changing Climate programme was launched in October 2021 in Nepal with the view of accelerating climate-resilient systemic change at the scale and pace required and to help the country to build back better as they emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Global Water Partnership (GWP) with its strong presence in Nepal partnered with FCDO and mobilised the required political leadership that is key to catalyse uptake of such strategies by keeping integrated water resources management (IWRM) intact.
The GWL in a Changing Climate Programme in Nepal marked its closure on 29 March 2024. The Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation officially unveiled the Response Strategy for Water Resources Management for Nepal on the day.
