The Regional Partners Technical Workshop for the preparation of the Initial Concept Note of the Regional Investment Project for Water Security and Climate Resilience in West Africa (AIP - ECOWAS) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) was held from 17 to 20 September 2024 in Ouagadougou.
Have you ever wondered about the economic value of water to a country? The Ministry of Water of Tanzania, the Wami Ruvu Basin Water Board and GWP, with support from the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, have provided a preliminary answer to that question for Tanzania: 3.31%, in just three sectors.
In a bit to strengthen climate resilience and secure sustainable access to water, the Kingdom of Eswatini held a high-level Capacity Needs Assessment Workshop on 9 May 2025. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs (NDA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Energy -Department of Water Affairs, with technical support from Joint River Basin Authorities Project Board and the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa as a delivery partner, the event was part of the African Union’s efforts in supporting Member States in developing Climate-Resilient Water Investment Programmes.
The Ministry of Water of Tanzania, the Wami Ruvu Basin Water Board and GWP, on behalf of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, have been collaborating to understand the economic value of water for Tanzania, and will be presenting the results in a public hybrid format, online and in-person at select sites.
Following the launch of Regional Strategy on Drought Risk Management and Mitigation for South Asia at the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UNCCD which was held on 10 December 2024, the countries of GWP SAS conducted mini-launches and key stakeholder consultations locally. The key stakeholder consultations around the strategy facilitated identifying the national level priorities that should be developed into action plans by keeping the regional strategy as the guide.

The youth innovator of GWP China & UNICEF China presented nature-based solutions to support SDG6 for children and families impacted by climate change.
The 2nd Stakeholder Consultation for an Integrated Management Plan (IMP) of the Damour area in Lebanon brought together key stakeholders from 27–29 October in Beirut, followed by a MedProgramme outreach workshop on 30 October. Led by GWP-Med, the IMP promotes holistic, source-to-sea water management, linking land, river, delta, coast, and marine ecosystems to support sustainable development and effective implementation of national policies.
