The 25th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium will be held from 30th October to 1st November 2024, at Avani Maseru Hotel, Maseru, the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. The event will be held under the theme, “Enhancing Sustainability: Upscaling Innovations and Best Practices for Integrated Catchment and Water Resources Management (ICWRM) in Eastern and Southern Africa – Leaving No One Behind”
The session coordinated by GWP-WA was held on Thursday 23 May 2024 at the Senegal Pavilion during the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia. Facilitated by the GWP-WA Chair, Mr Abdoulaye SENE, it featured the distinguished visits of the Senegalese Minister for Water and Sanitation, Dr Cheick Tidiane DIEYE, and the Executive Secretary/CEO of GWPO, Mr Alan ATKISSOON.
GWP-Med in partnership with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) led activities in Palestine for the GWL Programme, a global initiative supporting emerging leadership for improved water, sanitation and hygiene services, and climate resilience. Putrajaya, Malaysia | June 3, 2025 – Malaysia hosted a landmark regional workshop titled “From the Source to the Sea: Operationalising the 2040 Agenda” at the Zenith Hotel in Putrajaya.
While Bamako, the capital of Mali, is being hit hard by flooding, a workshop is being held on the subject of real-time mapping of the risk of flooding in Mali on the basis of rainfall forecasts, remote sensing and deep learning (AFCIA-Mali Project).
Podgorica, Montenegro – 30 May 2025 – The Government of Montenegro has launched a strategic Green Climate Fund (GCF) Water Readiness Project aimed at laying the foundation for paradigm-shifting climate investments that strengthen the climate resilience of the country’s ecosystems, economy, and livelihoods through improved water management.
GWP Eastern Africa Regional coordinator George Sanga joined participants from the Netherlands and 7 Africa countries (Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa), and Dutch Blue Deal partners for a workshop on sustainable financing of Integrated Water Resource Management. He shared the GWPEA experience with implementing the SDG6 IWRM Support Program on how the Blue Deal program can replicate the Matchmaking Initiative pilot in Kenya to mobilize financial resources in target countries.
These topics of water pricing, nature-based solutions, financial opportunities were discussed and an interesting excursion gave insights into the challenges of a local WRUA (Water Resources Users Association) in implementation of a Mangrove restauration project on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
Through a high-impact engagement, GWP advanced many of its strategic objectives at the World Water Week 2024, co-convening events and collaborating with global leaders and partners, both longstanding and new, under the theme ‘Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future’. With record participation in Stockholm and online, GWP emphasised water’s critical role in peacebuilding and sustainability, reaffirming its commitment to actionable, cross-border water solutions.
