In June 2024, Somalia concluded the implementation of a two-year Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Programme aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to access climate finance. Approved in November 2021, the project was designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, as the country’s National Designated Authority (NDA) to access and manage climate finance, develop GCF Country Programme and develop investment concept notes. Implementation of these three main activities under the GCF Readiness Programme and its successful completion is a significant step in Somalia's journey towards climate resilience and sustainable development.
The 5th Ordinary Session of the Ministerial Monitoring Committee (MMC) for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in West Africa was held on 28 June 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria. This meeting was preceded by the 11th ordinary session of the Technical Experts Committee (TCE) from 25 to 27 June 2024.
The SDG 6.5.1 Support Program is GWP’s flagship program aimed at assisting the national SDG 6.5.1. Focal Points in the organisation and facilitation of multi-stakeholder consultation on SDG Indicator 6.5.1, also known as Stage 1 support. The second stage is designed to facilitate the development of an Action Plan or similar in response to the identified challenges in Stage 1. Lastly, Stage 3 has an objective to support the implementation of the selected actions.

22 March is World Water Day, an annual UN Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater, and a yearly reminder to reflect on sound water governance. World Water Day 2025 focuses on glacier preservation, emphasising the need for global action to manage meltwater sustainably and reduce emissions, securing vital water resources for the future.
GWP Africa coordinator Mr. Alex SIMALABWI signed on April 25 2024 the USD$ 6 million grant agreement for the AU-AIP GCF Readiness project to develop AIP national climate resilience water investment plans across 15 African Countries. More African countries are expected to be included.
GWP-WA is searching the expertise of a Communication Agency to carry out the mission entitled “Development of communication materials on tools, policies and plans related to the profile, the EWS VoltAlarm and the regional strategy for the RIMFDR in the VB issued from the VFDM project and other related documents on the project website".
These terms of reference present the objectives, the expected results as well as the mandate of the Communication Agency, the expected deliverables, and the methodological approach to carry out the mission.
The ACCISI-GEM project marked an impressive success for natural resources conservation and sustainable farming in water-stressed Northern Tunisia, helping farmers increase agricultural production by 27%, while reducing irrigation water use by 3%.
GWP-Med in partnership with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) led activities in Palestine for the GWL Programme, a global initiative supporting emerging leadership for improved water, sanitation and hygiene services, and climate resilience. GWL was funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
