The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) participated in the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management’s (PISLM) 4th High Level Ministerial Meeting, held on June 18, 2025, at the Radisson Resorts Grenada. During the event, GWP-C reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional efforts in sustainable water and land governance, particularly through its role in the implementation of the Caribbean Drought Initiative—one of the key undertakings of the regional Inter-Governmental Organisation, which recently signed a Headquarter Agreement with the Government of Grenada.
Bangkok, Thailand | April 9, 2025 - Southeast Asia is facing increasing water-related challenges as climate change intensifies. To address these risks, a regional workshop held in Bangkok, Thailand from 8 – 9 April 2025, brought together experts and leaders from Cambodia, Lao PDR, and beyond to strengthen water and drought risk management under a flagship Climate Risk & Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative.
The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) played a key role in the Drought Resilience +10 Conference held from 30 September to 2 October 2024 in Geneva. Building on the outcomes of the first High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policies in 2013, the conference focused on accelerating actions to build drought resilience worldwide. It gathered countries, experts, and practitioners to review progress in drought management and outline a collective path forward.
In celebration of this year's World Water Day theme "Water for Peace", GWP-Med, Horizon2020 REXUS Communication & Dissemination leader, explains the 3 ‘steps’ that are key to turning water into an opportunity for collaboration rather than conflict, and how REXUS is addressing them.
GWP Eastern Africa Regional coordinator George Sanga joined participants from the Netherlands and 7 Africa countries (Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa), and Dutch Blue Deal partners for a workshop on sustainable financing of Integrated Water Resource Management. He shared the GWPEA experience with implementing the SDG6 IWRM Support Program on how the Blue Deal program can replicate the Matchmaking Initiative pilot in Kenya to mobilize financial resources in target countries.
These topics of water pricing, nature-based solutions, financial opportunities were discussed and an interesting excursion gave insights into the challenges of a local WRUA (Water Resources Users Association) in implementation of a Mangrove restauration project on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
From 30 September to 2 October 2024, Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP SEA), represented by our Interim Regional Coordinator, Mrs Louise Desrainy Maryonoputri, received a sponsorship to participate in the Drought Resilience +10 Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, at the WMO Headquarters.
AMMAN - Sweden, the Union for the Mediterranean and the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean, on Monday, 8 May 2023, inaugurated integrated technical solutions for sustainable agriculture in Salt Governorate. These involve reuse of treated wastewater from Wadi Shuayb Wastewater Treatment Plant for irrigation, after its tertiary treatment through constructed wetlands, with pumping powered by renewable solar energy, and climate-resilient planting.
Representatives from Lebanese ministries joined a field visit to Nexus related projects in the Shouf region in Lebanon, aiming to address trade-offs across different sectors and generate socioeconomic and environmental advantages, organised by GWP-Med within the framework of the GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme.
