A team of GWP-WA and CWP Burkina PNE had on June 11, 2015 a visit to assess the level of implementation of work on the site of the WACDEP demonstration project in Burkina Faso. This project involves the drip irrigation techniques for the efficient management of agricultural water for the benefit of vulnerable populations in the municipality of Loumbila in the center of the country.

Since the last visit in April 2015 there has been plowing work, the installation of some drip irrigation and water pumping equipment with solar energy, among others.

Within the framework of IDMP implementation, GWPEA has started the process of documenting and sharing the knowledge about good case studies on drought resilience the Horn of Africa, in selected countries including Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia

Jharkhand is a new state, established in 2000, to support the rights of indigenous people to have a separate state for themselves. Jharkhand is home to many of the country’s poorest people, despite the city being located in one of the richest areas of India in terms of minerals and natural resources. Agriculture, as the sole economic activity in the area, has not been properly developed (e.g. water facilities are poor and access to upgraded and modern agriculture-based knowledge is limited) and the land is prone to severe droughts, marked only by erratic rainfalls. Therefore, starvation and malnutrition of its citizens is widespread.

On the occasion of the 2017 International Women’s Day, and drawing on the global theme for this year: Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality, GWP-Med has asked women water champions from the Mediterranean water community to reflect on: How can the water sector step it up for gender equality?

GWP Annual Report Files consist of the annual monitoring summary on: progress markers, logframe indicators, implementation of planned activities and self-assessment on progress around critical GWP functions. By wrapping up the annual performance, all RWPs are requested to draft out the the planned set of activities to be implemented in next year. The work plan files consist of context and workplan summary, detailed workplan and budget.

The Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) has established a formal agreement with the Department for Planning and Conservation of Agricultural Lands at the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture towards integrating climate change considerations in water and soil conservation planning, under the WACDEP (Water, Climate & Development) Programme; and in this context, it has entered a very fruitful collaboration with the Ministry, as well as the Regional Department for Agriculture in Bizerte, in Tunisia’s North, using the Douimis Basin in the Bizerte Region as a pilot for the development of the climate change mainstreaming methodology.

There is a challenge in convincing national and international leaders of the water sectors vulnerability to climate change.

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania), together with the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat, is organizing the 6th Africa Water Week to be held at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam from 18th – 22nd July, 2016. The Tanzania Water Partnership has been coopted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC. 

The National Youth Parliament for Water and Sanitation in Benin organized on August 26, 2015 with the support of the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP Benin) and GIZ, in Cotonou, a workshop to validate the report of the national consultation on the place of youth in the governance of water and food security in the context of climate change. The workshop was attended by several youth organizations, the Advisory Body for Youth, public institutions and technical and financial partners involved in the water sector, food security and climate change in Benin.
