GWP and AMCOW – Collaborating for Success

GWP and AMCOW – the African Ministers’ Council on Water – have been working together for over a decade. AMCOW Executive Secretary Dr Canisius Kanangire recently visited the GWP secretariat in Stockholm to discuss current and future collaboration. Dr Kanangire says that GWP has a lot of knowledge, experience, and expertise that can support AMCOW to reach results in many aspects of water resources management.

Mali, for the sustainable management of industrial waste

CWP Mali held on 11 and 12 April 2017 a workshop on the sustainable management of the industrial wate of Sotuba, a district in Bamako with many industries. The event was organized in collaboration with the national agency of cleaning stations of Mali under the patronage of the Minister of environment, sanitation and sustainable development represented by his General Secretary, Mr. Abdoulaye BERTHE.

Bolivia: The water war to resist privatisation of water in Cochabamba (#157)

In Bolivia, shifts towards the privatisation of water supply and sewage services caused strong dissatisfaction, resulting in the eruption of social conflict. Because of the severe dissatisfaction, action was taken to cancel the previous agreements and instead launch a forum where government representatives, social organizations, the private sector and municipalities participate to formulate of a new policy. This case illustrates the crucial importance of rooting policies with the public.

The GWP in Action 2016 Annual Report is now available online. It highlights many of the network’s activities achieved through 13 Regional Water Partnerships, 86 Country Water Partnerships, 3,427 Partners located in 183 countries, and generous donor agencies.

Danka Thalmeinerova on the Challenges of Knowledge Management

Danka Thalmeinerova is Senior Knowledge Management Officer at the GWP global secretariat in Stockholm. She joined the global secretariat in 2008 but has a long history with GWP before that – both at regional and country level. In the on-going interview series to mark GWP’s 20th Anniversary, Thalmeinerova speaks about her job: “I did not envisage how inspiring but challenging this would be.”

IDMP-WA final workshop in Léo (Burkina Faso) from 19 to 21 December 2017

This important meeting will serve to draw lessons from the implementation of the project and give final orientation on reporting issues. It will gather participants from Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger as well regional implementing partners of the IDMP based in Burkina Faso like WASCAL, WAEMU, VBA, CILSS.

Three factsheets on the three demonstration pilot projects of the Integrated Drought Management Project (IDMP) West Africa have been produced. These factsheets give basic information on the various pilots projects being carried our in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger in the framework of the IDMP. Young Water Leaders Summit 2018

The Young Water Leaders Summit (YWLS) is a flagship event at the Singapore International Water Week. The 3-day Summit takes place 8-10 July and facilitates interactive dialogues on pressing water issues, as well as networking among young professionals, industry leaders and senior water practitioners.
