22 March is World Water Day, an annual UN Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater, and a yearly reminder to reflect on sound water governance. World Water Day 2025 focuses on glacier preservation, emphasising the need for global action to manage meltwater sustainably and reduce emissions, securing vital water resources for the future.
On Thursday, September 14, 2025, the Regional Water Partnership for West Africa (GWP-WA) held a virtual handover ceremony between the outgoing Executive Secretary, Mr. Kocou Armand Houanye, and the incoming Interim Executive Secretary, Mr. Sidi Coulibaly.
On December 5, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Wetlands International Sahel Office (WISO) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the start of strengthened cooperation for sustainable water resource management, wetland conservation, and biodiversity protection in the Sahel region.
In a collaborative effort to ensure the integrity and reliability of essential water infrastructure, GWP-C teamed up with Daniel and Daniel Engineering Inc. to conduct a comprehensive site inspection at the intake structure/dam and transmission/Distribution mains located in Mt. Granby, St. John. The seven-man technical team, assembled by Daniel and Daniel Engineering Inc., carried out the inspection under the expert guidance of retiree Michael “Freshy” Fleming.
The African SIDS Blue Economy Project, a joint initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP, and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, under the leadership of the African Union Commission as the focal custodian of the project, was showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Africa Blue Economy Week took place from 23 to 25 September 2025.
On May 20, 2025, GWP China played host to a thematic seminar titled "Integrated Water Resources Management and Green Development of Hydropower," convened by the 28th Congress of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) and the 93rd Annual Meeting, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
