Cyclone Ditwa Leaves Sri Lanka in Crisis

2 December 2025; Sri Lanka is reeling from the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwa, which swept northward across the island beginning 28 November. Torrential rains exceeding 300 mm and winds up to 70 km/h triggered landslides, floods, and widespread destruction across Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western, North Eastern, and Eastern Provinces.

GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme: Advancing a Source-to-Sea Vision for the Damour Area

The 2nd Stakeholder Consultation for an Integrated Management Plan (IMP) of the Damour area in Lebanon brought together key stakeholders from 27–29 October in Beirut, followed by a MedProgramme outreach workshop on 30 October. Led by GWP-Med, the IMP promotes holistic, source-to-sea water management, linking land, river, delta, coast, and marine ecosystems to support sustainable development and effective implementation of national policies.

African SIDS Project Joins Global Engagements on Advancing Collaborative Ocean Solutions

The UNDP-GEF Project “Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African Small Island Developing States (African SIDS), through the African Union Commission and GWPSA, participated in an IW: Learn Twinning Exchange organised as part of the Global Environment Facility International Waters (GEF IW): LEARN 5 initiatives to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between International Waters projects across regions. The exchange activities took place in Colombia and Belize from 27 October to 4 November 2025.
