Informing a Global SDG on Water through UN Water

GWP SA (through GWPO),  has now been engaged by UN Water to organize post 2015 national consultations on water between February and end of March 2014. The consultations have been held in three countries – Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. This process is facilitated by GWPO through its regional and country networks - UN Water having given GWP this role because of GWP’s stakeholder platforms across the world.

Moldova is International Danube Art Master 2014

Bratislava, 18 September 2014. Moldavian children have won the „International Danube Art Master 2014“ competition, as the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River and Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe announced today.

China Hebei: Development and management of groundwater irrigation in Hengshui (#312)

Hebei has only met water demand through overdraft of deep groundwater, resulting in the formation of a groundwater overdraft depression. This issue is further exacerbated by saline water intrusion into the groundwater tables. The water administrative department has taken measures accounting for IWRM principles, for example by establishing the Water Users Association to encourage participatory management. The lesson learnt is the value of a participatory approach in management.

China Shaanxi: The Weihe River Basin integrated management planning (#311)

The Weihe River plays a central role in Shaanxi. However, rapid economic development has created many problems, including increased water scarcity, pollution and regional ecological environment deterioration. As a response, the Weihe River Basin Integrated Management Plan was developed based on the principles and approaches of IWRM, with the participation of many sectors. The significance of this case is the promotion of public participation and gradual improvement of the market economy system.

WACDEP Young Professional Development Initiative

The WACDEP has launched its Young Professional Development Initiative. GWP is calling on Young Professionals in fields related to water management and development, who wish to enhance their professional capacity to express their interest in promoting youth and water engagement through the WACDEP country and regional programmes. Nine (9) Youth Professionals will serve on an internship basis in each of the eight WACDEP countries and in the WACDEP Coordination Unit (CU) in Pretoria, for a period of between six to twelve months.

Cameroon: Lessons from domestic rain water harvesting (#460)

Water resources, in particular conventional rural water supply systems/sources are among the first to be impacted by climate variability. Accessibility to portable water in the sudano-sahelian part of Cameroon is a course for concern given that the population relies mainly on springs, wells and boreholes for the supply of potable water in rural areas.

GWP CACENA Special Focused Event at the Dushanbe High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation

The Dushanbe High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation, organized by the Government of Tajikistan on 20 and 21 August 2013, gathered a considerable audience to discuss and share various opinions on the role of water in sustainable development.

 

GWP CACENA, aiming to present its Program on Climate Change Adaptation for 2013-2015, has organized the Special Focused Event "IWRM as a practical approach for adaptation to climate change in the countries of Central Asia and Caucasus".
