Over the past year and a half, GWP has been proud to work alongside committed partners in the water and sanitation sector to ensure that the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) includes how climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services can be integrated in the Framework’s ‘water’ theme.
The Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA) has supported the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) and the Secretariat of the Convention for the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, provided by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), in promoting the process of accession, ratification and implementation of the Conventions on shared surface and groundwater in the UEMOA region.
Alignment and harmonization of individual workstreams as well as counterpart workstreams by all technical partners of the UNDP-GEF Limpopo project is critical to the success of the project. This was the key message that came out of the Integration Workshop for the project “Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin,” held on 7-8 February 2024 in a hybrid format coordinated from Pretoria, South Africa. The GEF-funded project is being implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with Global Water Partnership Southern African (GWPSA) as the regional executing agency.
In a collaborative effort to ensure the integrity and reliability of essential water infrastructure, GWP-C teamed up with Daniel and Daniel Engineering Inc. to conduct a comprehensive site inspection at the intake structure/dam and transmission/Distribution mains located in Mt. Granby, St. John. The seven-man technical team, assembled by Daniel and Daniel Engineering Inc., carried out the inspection under the expert guidance of retiree Michael “Freshy” Fleming.
GWP-Med, the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta and the GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme have joined forces to protect the Ghar El Melh lagoon, one of Tunisia's most precious wetlands, improve climate resilience, advance sustainable development and ensure human well-being.
Integrating hydro-climatic risk assessments, climate change adaptation strategies and machine learning fundamentals, as mechanisms to address the region’s water resource challenges, were areas presented during two-day workshop held at the Bay Gardens Hotel in St. Lucia.
In April 2023, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) issued an Open Call to Caribbean Journalists, Content Creators, Media Practitioners, and other interested persons to produce a high-quality 5-minute video on Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM).
