Following up on the Regional Seminar on IWRM Planning in North Africa (Rabat, 24-25 January 2006), which assessed progress and discussed the challenges towards achieving the IWRM in the countries of North Africa, a Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Libya will take place in Tripoli, Libya, on 11 and 12 April 2007.
Hurghada, Egypt, 13-15 December 2006
Integrated management of groundwater resources is a challenge of particular importance in the region, especially in the arid lands. A 3-days Training Course on Groundwater Assessment and Development is organized from 13 to 15 December 2006, in Hurghada, Egypt, by CEDARE, GWP-Med, UNDP and the Eastern Desert Project.

World Water Day 2012 was celebrated on 22nd March under the theme of "Water and Food Security: The World is Thirsty Because We are Hungry". To Celebrate the World Water Day 2012, Indonesia Water Partnership in cooperation with other government and other stakeholders hosted a seminar on "Water resistance to National Food Security through National Reformation" in Jakarta on 19 April 2012 and joining the World Water Day highlight events with the Ministry of Public Works through the Directorate General of water resources (SDA) held in West Java province in Situ Cipule on May 12, 2012 with the theme "Water and Food Security".
Strategic financial planning is a means to assess financing needs and match them to financing sources in a structured way to fill the gap in funds over a period of time based on different future scenarios. An approach to strategic financial planning for the water supply and sanitation sector called FEASIBLE has been developed by the OECD. It was applied with support from the GWP-hosted EUWI-FWG and the ACP-EU Water Facility in Lesotho during 2008-2010.
Dr. Ania Grobicki, GWP Executive Secretary, speaking at a World Water Day press conference at the United Nations in New York, called on governments to recommit to IWRM and Water Efficiency Plans at the Rio+20 Conference in June 2012. Governments agreed to such Plans in Johannesburg, South Africa, known as the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation, at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Earth Summit 2002).
