7th SADC Dialogue - “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialisation”

The 7th SADC Multi Stakeholder Water Dialogue, a biennial activity which provides a platform for regional stakeholders to discuss and share experiences on different aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) will this year be held from the 29th to the 30th of September in Windhoek, Namibia. Running under the theme “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialization” this year's Water Dialogue will focus on unpacking the role that water will play in driving industrialisation in the region. RBOs called to adapt Local Indigenous knowledge for coping with Water Related Disasters

Based on country studies on Local Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (LIKSP) and how they contribute to enhancing climate resilience in each of the 14 countries in the SADC region, Qandelihle Simelane (regional consultant of LIKSP studies) gave a regional summation from country studies undertaken in the region during the 6th SADC River Basin Organisations (RBOs) Workshop held from the 15th to the 17th of October 2014 at Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa under the theme “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Resilience in Water Related Disasters.”

ECCAS experts mobilized for reshaping hydrological norms in central Africa

The workshop on the mobilization of Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) experts for reshaping hydrological norms was held in Douala, Cameroon from October 20th to 21st, 2015.

This workshop was implemented within the framework of the project known as RESIHYST Africa Project “Hydrological standards reviewing for resilient hydraulic infrastructure to climate change in Africa “. It was organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

This workshop brought together ECCAS’ experts in database management, GWP-CAf expert officials from ministries of water, transport, public works and focal points of International Hydrological programme (IHP) from Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe as well as representatives of universities and hydrological research center.

CWP Ghana: 3rd Capacity building workshop held

The 3rd Capacity Development workshop was held at the conference room of the SSNIT Guest House from 10th to 13th November, 2014 in Accra. The purpose of the workshop, among other things was to “Highlight Delivering of Investment Solution” for water security and climate resilient development. Also, it afforded participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge of practical steps needed to integrate no/low regret investments into the development planning process as well as how to develop financing strategies. The four-day programme was very educative and fun as participants embarked on an educational tour to the Akosombo dam, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)- Fisheries division, and Kpong Harbour, a fishing community at Kpong. Participants were provided with first-hand information on coping and adaptive strategies.

MedPartnership and ClimVar Projects end

The MedPartnership and ClimVar projects held their final meeting on 3-4 November 2015 in Athens, Greece to showcase the results achieved through the activities and demonstration projects implemented over the past five years or so aiming to address the main environmental challenges that Mediterranean marine and coastal ecosystems face.
