The Global Water Partnership (GWP), represented by Mr. Alex Simalabwi, CEO of the Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO) and Executive Secretary of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), played a leading role at the AWSISA Africa & Global South Water & Sanitation Dialogue, held from 9–12 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.
The Regional Forum on the theme: "Capitalization and scaling up of IWRM best practices for water security and population resilience in the WAEMU Space" took place from November 28 to 30, 2023 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
On December 5, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Wetlands International Sahel Office (WISO) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the start of strengthened cooperation for sustainable water resource management, wetland conservation, and biodiversity protection in the Sahel region.
At the 1st Mediterranean Green Week, co-organised by the Union for the Mediterranean and the OECD in Istanbul, the key role of the WEFE Nexus approach in tackling major Mediterranean challenges was highlighted, especially through partnerships such as the joint efforts under the GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme in promoting environmental security and building resilience against climate change.
Alignment and harmonization of individual workstreams as well as counterpart workstreams by all technical partners of the UNDP-GEF Limpopo project is critical to the success of the project. This was the key message that came out of the Integration Workshop for the project “Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin,” held on 7-8 February 2024 in a hybrid format coordinated from Pretoria, South Africa. The GEF-funded project is being implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with Global Water Partnership Southern African (GWPSA) as the regional executing agency.
