Water and climate change put higher on regional agenda

Central America is one of the regions most vulnerable to climate change, so recognising that water is essential to adaptation is crucial to national and regional strategies. To this end, GWP Central America has contributed to the water component in the Action Plan of the Regional Strategy for Climate Change (ERCC) and organised a regional workshop on water and climate change.

Water security is becoming a real issue

With water scarcity now a serious global concern, agencies involved in water resources management internationally are seeking to work together to promote efficient and sustainable solutions. Recycling and reclaiming water should be a key objective for both agricultural and urban supply, says Global Water Partnership’s Executive Secretary Dr Ania Grobicki in an interview with the magazine "Global - the International Briefing".

Capacity Building for IWRM in Africa and the Caribbean

UNDP's Cap-Net Programme, in collaboration with GWP has completed the implementation of a three year project to strengthen capacity in water management in Africa and the Caribbean. Cap-Net worked closely with the GWP’s network of water partnerships and GWP participated in the preparation of activities and the identification of participants.

The Capacity Building Workshop on “Integrated Water Resources Management, with particular reference to the conditions in the extended Drin River Basin” was co-organised in Skhodra, Albania, 25-27 November 2008by the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med), the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and the GEF “Lake Shkoder/Skadar Integrated Ecosystem Management” Project.

Water, Climate and Development Day at COP17

On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, the African Ministers Council on Water in conjunction with the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Department of Water Affairs South Africa, the Global Water Partnership and Water and Climate Coalition arranged an all-day event on Water, Climate and Development in the River Room at the African Pavilion.
