In order to examine and internalize the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE)’s report on Water for Food Security and Nutrition (FSN), GWPEA facilitated on 11th August, the Ethiopian national consultation group workshop.
The Water, Climate and Development Programme in South America has been developed to support the integration of water security and adaptation to climate change into development planning processes and investment, promoting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) as a key strategy.
GWP works with strategic allies on thematic programmes as part of its work to see IWRM implemented in different contexts.
The one-day national consultation took place at the Reiz Continental Hotel, Central Business District Area in Abuja on 3rd April, 2014. The meeting was organized by the Global Water Partnership-Nigeria (GWP-N). The Consultations captured a broad range of priority issues related to water in the post-2015 development agenda from the Nigerian perspective.
An Expert Task Force of the joint GWP/OECD project “Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth” has presented provisional results of research into the economics of water security. Although still a work in progress, some striking patterns stand out, and the experts believe this could be a game changer in the quest for a dedicated water goal in the post-2015 development agenda, as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are to be decided upon.
China is faced with significant costs regarding floods and degradation of ecological conditions in the Yangtze River basin. As a response, the application of Ecosystem Function Conservation Areas approach has been initiated not only to increase water retention capacity and reduce sediment loads, but also to provide benefits in biodiversity, carbon sequestration and sustainable land management. The key lesson is that success is easier to achieve with positive natural and political conditions.
On 18 December 2013, Indonesia Water Partnership re-introduced Tool Box to 14 participants who came from Government, Professional, University, and NGO. Resource Persons came from: Government (DG Water Resources, Ministriof Public Work); Private Companies, NGOs, Highe Education (University). Malaysian Water Partnership, in collaboration with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID), conducted the Stakeholder Forum for Incorporating Climate Resilience in the National Water Resources Policy Action Plans on the 27th and 28th of October 2014. This activity was a response to the launch of Malaysia’s National Water Resources Policy on 24 March 2012 which recognized climate change as an important issue to be addressed in the policy formulation. This forum was attended by 90 people from 40 institutions.
