The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Sponsoring Partners announced today the appointment of Dr. Ursula Schaefer-Preuss as its new Chair, effective January 1, 2013. Dr. Schaefer-Preuss’ latest assignment was as Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. She was responsible for ADB’s Regional and Sustainable Development Department and Economics and Research Department (Office of the Chief Economist).

Located in the Baltic Sea Basin, Poland has a mean annual water resources per capita of approximately 1,600m3, almost three times less than the mean value for Europe.
The Volta River basin remained one of the few unregulated transboundary watercourses in Africa. Action was taken to improve water governance and water management practices. Although this is still in progress, it has resulted in multi-scale participatory governance frameworks for joint management. From this process, it is evident that building a local knowledge base with good data and information systems is important in deciding the most efficient allocation of resources.
On World Water Day, the Global Water Partnership calls for increased cooperation to manage shared water resources.

GWP Nepal and the Water Integrity Network (WIN) has undertaken a project, "Assessment of the Morang Drinking Water Supply Corporation Functionality of the Water Supply Services", to inform service providers and consumers about transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Morang Water Supply System (MWSS). The Morang District is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal covering an area of 1,855 km² with a population of 843,220.
As a co-organizer of the East Africa Young Water Professionals Conference held in Rwanda’s capital Kigali, December, 2012, GWP Eastern Africa contributed to the adoption of Water Declaration directed to government decision-makers in East Africa and beyond.
