Real development: national planning that integrates water resources management and adaptation

On the afternoon of December 1st, two representatives from GWP participated in two different panels of the Dialogs for Water and Climate Change. The first was “Bridging IWRM and National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs)” and the second was a Stakeholder’s Panel: “Urgencies to Adapt—Experiences and Constraints.”

GWP Pakistan Responds to Flood Catastrophe

While Pakistan endures one of the country’s most devastating floods—possibly its worst ever—GWP Pakistan is joining with others to help provide relief and rehabilitation to remote communities that have been particularly hard-hit. In addition, the GWP Partner Hisaar Foundation and the Karachi Water Partnership, has launched an appeal to raise Rs 10 million for immediate flood relief, largely for the provision of safe drinking water.

GWP a Significant Contributor at ADB Water Conference

GWP Patron Margaret Catley-Carlson delivered the keynote speech at this year's Asia Development Bank’s (ADB) water conference held October 11-15, 2010 in Manila, Philippines. Her focus was on “cutting through red tape in order to achieve better water security.” The GWP delegation participated in a variety of sessions and gave presentations.

GWP at UNESCO Oceans Conference

GWP Executive Secretary and Chair of GWP Mediterranean will participate in the Fifth Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands, May 3-7 in Paris, France. The Global Oceans Conference 2010 is hosted by UNESCO and the Government of France and provides a major opportunity for all sectors of the global oceans community to make progress in advancing the global oceans agenda.

High-Level Roundtable on Strategy of Extreme Climate Adaptation in China

Level Roundtable on Strategy of Extreme Climate Adaptation in China was jointly organized by Global Water Partnership China, Asian Development Bank and Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on April 22, 2011 in Beijing with the co-sponsors of UNESCO Office Beijing, UNICEF Office for China, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), WWF Beijing Office, Research Center on Flood and Drought Disaster Reduction of the Ministry of Water Resources and Climate Change Research Center of the Ministry of Water Resources and 130 participants from the key water-related ministries under the State Council, and relevant departments of the Ministry of Water Resources, UN organizations’ offices in China, foreign embassies in Beijing, universities, research institutes and NGOs.

Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) is dedicated to promoting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) as the preferred approach to water resources management in the region.

IMPLEMENTATION

The programme runs from May 2011 to April 2016. Initially, WACDEP starts in eight African countries and five transboundary river basins / aquifers all over the continent.
