Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan have successfully completed their national assessments for the Asian Water Development Outlook (AWDO) 2025, contributing to a thematic chapter that explores the continental-level relationship between water security and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
Kamuisa village in Dedza district is just a few meters from Lake Malawi, the fifth largest freshwater body in the world, and yet the community could not produce enough food to last all year round. The community could not cultivate enough during the rainy season and did not have the infrastructure to collect water from the lake. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat came in to support the community to establish a climate-resilient water, energy, and food nexus project that would utilise water from the lake for irrigation of various crops and domestic use.
From September 29 to October 1, 2025, the Hôtel Pélican in Lomé hosted a pivotal regional validation workshop for the "Regional Initiative for Water and Environment in the Transboundary Mono River Basin (RIWE-Mono)", funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
This event showcases various drought management initiatives across Latin America and the Caribbean. It brings together experts, policy makers, and scientists who will share how droughts impact and manifest themselves in their respective countries and localities.
The 11th SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue was held in Maseru, Lesotho, from 29 to 30 September 2025, where delegates discussed the role of water in regional economic corridor development, positioning and aligning the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus for impactful contribution to the regional economic development corridor agenda.
