The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources Development and Management (MWRDM), today launches the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) for Africa in Zimbabwe. The launch, which is in the form of an Inception Workshop is being held on 10 and 11^th April 2013 at the Holiday Inn, Harare, Zimbabwe

GWP's Executive Secretary, Dr. Ania Grobicki spoke during the official opening of the 6th “WACDEP Technical Coordination Workshop” held from the 15th -19th September 2014 at Meikles Hotel, Harare, Zimbabwe. The workshop was hosted by the Zimbabwe Country Water Partnership (ZCWP), under the patronage of Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate, Zimbabwe.

GWP-WA has implemented and developed a number of programs with the support of Global Water Partnership (GWP) and other technical and financial partners.

To increase agricultural productivity, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has encouraged many farmers to organise water users groups. Yields are to be increased through the collaborative and efficient participation of beneficiary farmers engaged in irrigation. This has led to efficient water distribution throughout the managed watercourse. The most important lesson learnt is the importance of the strengthening of each water user group. 

An Expert Task Force of the joint GWP/OECD project “Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth” has presented provisional results of research into the economics of water security. Although still a work in progress, some striking patterns stand out, and the experts believe this could be a game changer in the quest for a dedicated water goal in the post-2015 development agenda, as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are to be decided upon.

New case study on GWP ToolBox presents results of Safe Sanitation, Health and Dignity Project in Romania.

The National Consultation on Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) Management will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Malta.

 A River Basin Management Plan of the Sava river basin is under development, the first attempt in the Southern European region to draft a River Basin Management Plan according to the EU Water Framework Directive. GWP Mediterranean and GWP Central and Eastern Europe have significantly contributed to the stakeholder involvement process related to development of the Plan.

The Prut River is subjected to cross border pollution. Action was taken by the Eco-Counselling Center to initiate a project to facilitate a regional, trans-boundary approach, to enable the multi-stakeholders involvement and to ensure transparency and participation on the Draft Prut River Management Plan. This case highlights an applicable approach to improving water policy and management through stakeholder integration and cross-border cooperation.
