1. Ghana: WACDEP supports GWJN Way-forward exercise

CWP-Ghana/WACDEP has supported members of the Ghana WatSan Journalists Network (GWJN) to undertake a Field Exercise aimed at assessing residents’ access to portable water in some selected communities in Accra as part of activities marking the World Water Day. This is a Way forward activity of the Media Training that was carried out in September, 2014. There were about 20 participants drawn from the membership of the network including in the print, radio, online and television media. The activity was monitored by the Communications officer.

Youth in Lesotho - a vital partner in understanding and engaging in national water issues

Youth are an integral partner in managing water issues – this was evidenced through the participation of over 30 youth that participated in the SADC Water Week held at the Maseru Sun Cabanas Hotel in Maseru, Lesotho from 21-23rd April, 2015. The event proved that engagement of youth in water management issues makes it possible for the youth to understand their roles as possible stewards in water management affairs. Held under the theme “From Vision to Action”, the youth were able to make personal commitment to solutions practicing better water management.

2016 IWC Masters Scholarships-Master of Integrated Water Management (Australia)

The International WaterCentre (IWC) is offering several scholarships for high calibre applicants who want to study the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) commencing in Semester 1, 2016.

 

These prestigious scholarships will be awarded on a merit-basis to candidates who clearly demonstrate potential to become future water leaders.

GWP at Africa Water Week 2014

The 5th Africa Water Week (AWW5) takes place in Dakar, Senegal on 26 to 31 May 2014. The event is convened by the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) in conjunction with the African Union Commission and organised with other development partners. GWP is involved in a number of activities.

ClimVar Project: Concluding the Climagine consultation process in Tunisia

The third and final “Climagine” consultation workshop was organised by the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med), in the framework of the regional ClimVar Project “Integration of the Climate Variability and Change Impacts in the Integrated Coastal Zones Management National Strategies”, through two consecutive consultations, one in the archipelago of Kerkennah in Southern Tunisia, on July 28th, 2015 and one in Tunis the day after, both with more than 25 participants from key organisations involved in Tunisia and Kerkennah’s coastal management.

Development of Operational Guideline for Conducting Demonstration Plot of Efficient Use of Irrigation Water and Low Emission of GHG using System of Rice Intensification (SRI) for Various Condition of Rice Fields in Indonesia

 

SRI is as a set crop management practices for raising the productivity of irrigated rice by changing the management of plants, soil, water and nutrients. One of the important treatments of SRI is that standing water is not essential anymore instead the soil is kept just fairly wet and thus creating aerobic-anaerobic conditions during the cultivation period. This treatment gives distinct behaviors of water regimes allowing more proliferation of roots and the most important is capable to enhance the activities of soil micro-organisms.

Ghana: 2nd Capacity training held

The Ghana Country Water Partnership under ict Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) HAS Organised the 2nd module of the capacity building program titled "Identify and Appraise Options." This training Took Place in the Upper-East Region from July 21st -24th, 2014 at the conference room of Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel in Bolgatanga.
