Mozambique and Zimbabwe commit to tackling escalating challenges in the Buzi, Pungwe, and Save River Basins

The governments of Mozambique and Zimbabwe have pledged their commitment to tackling social, economic, and environmental challenges on the increase in the Buzi, Pungwe, and Save (BUPUSA) River Basins, shared exclusively by the two countries. The commitment was expressed through the signing of the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the BUPUSA Watercourses by ministers for water in the two countries, on 29 November 2024. The 10-year SAP was developed by the two governments with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and technical support from the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Desenvolvimento do Programa de Ação Estratégico para a Tri-bacia do Buzi, Pungwe e Save (BUPUSA), para desbloquear investimentos transfronteiriços.

Moçambique e o Zimbabué estão a enfrentar corajosamente a escalada dos desafios sociais, económicos e ambientais nas bacias hidrográficas do Buzi, Pungwe e Save. Em 2023, os dois governos lançaram a Comissão dos Cursos de Água do Buzi, Pungwe e Save (BUPUSACOM) ao abrigo de acordos de cooperação alinhados com o Protocolo Revisto da SADC sobre o Curso de Águas Partilhadas de 2000, para liderar uma resposta unida aos desafios que foram intensificados pelas alterações climáticas e pela má gestão dos recursos.

Keeping progress of integrated water resources management on track

Between April and October 2023, UN Member States will take stock and report their progress on implementing the integrated water resources management (IWRM) target under the SDGs. GWP, through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, will assist countries in facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations to assess and report on their progress on SDG indicator 6.5.1.

Consulting company in charge of developing a climate finance monitoring tool for the GCF project in the Central African Republic

The consulting company will work closely with the national project coordinator, CAR’s NDA, and GWP team at national, regional, and global levels to design, develop and implement a suitable climate finance monitoring and tracking system that is responsive to the needs of the country's users. The current capacity of the NDA for monitoring and evaluation has been identified as low, and the selected firm will thus have an opportunity to significantly influence the future operation of CAR’s monitoring, reporting, and verification of climate finance. Consequently, the selected consulting company is expected to bring significant expertise and experience in developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems in a developing country context.

Valuing Water in Tanzania product launch

The Ministry of Water of Tanzania, the Wami Ruvu Basin Water Board and GWP, on behalf of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, have been collaborating to understand the economic value of water for Tanzania, and will be presenting the results in a public hybrid format, online and in-person at select sites.

VFDM provides training on impact-based flood forecasting products and the Integrated Bulletin

Côte d'Ivoire's economic capital hosted a training workshop for stakeholders from the Volta basin on impact-based flood forecasting products and the Bulletin integrated into the myDewetra-VOLTALARM platform. The event was held from 12 to 16 June 2023 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Water and Forests, who was represented at the official ceremony by Colonel Major Lucien KOUASSI, Director General of Forests and Wildlife of Côte d'Ivoire.
