Regional Approaches to Food and Water Security in the Face of Climate Challenges

ProceedingsThe global focus on the threats posed by climate change has drawn attention to the fact that water will be the medium through which many of its impacts will be felt. In addition to the direct impacts of damaging floods and interruptions to water supply due to drought, a particular concern in many regions is the threat to food security, driven by changing rainfall patterns and increased aridity.

Rainwater Harvesting ToolBox

In partnership with the Council for Caribbean Science and Technology (CCST), Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) received a grant from the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund (PGTTF) to finance a Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) project for the Caribbean.

Knowledge shared among stakeholders on transboundary waters

Continuing a process launched in 2006, GWP Mediterranean organised four regional workshops during 2011 aimed at enriching knowledge, enhancing experience-sharing and strengthening capacity building on issues relating to transboundary water resources management in south-eastern Europe.

Training Workshop in Antigua on Water Use Efficiency in the Tourism Sector

Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) sought to assess the effectiveness of its training manual on Water Use Efficiency (WUE) in the Tourism Industry and Hotel Sector by hosting a WUE workshop in Antigua on November 29th - 30th, 2011. To assist in carrying out the WUE workshop in the Tourism sector, GWP-C contracted the Environment Tourism Consulting Limited (ETC).

Training Workshop in St. Kitts on Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector

In its efforts to continue building capacity for improved water management in the region, Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) together with its partner, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) hosted a workshop entitled ‘Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector’ on November 1st - 3rd, 2011 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Centre in St. Kitts.

GWP Benin: supporting local and national development

GWP Benin was established a little over ten years ago. In recent years, it has been credited with helping to steer the new Water Law through parliament (2010), promote acceptance of the Water Policy (2009), and campaign for the national IWRM Plan among the country's water stakeholders (2011).

New GWP Technical Committee Members

The GWP Technical Committee consists of up to 12 internationally recognised professionals selected for their experience in different disciplines relating to integrated water resources management. The Committee Chair is Dr Mohamed Ait-Kadi of Morocco.

Sierra Leone ready to launch CWP

The water stakeholders in Sierra Leone agree to establish a National Water Partnership (CWP) at a meeting held December 23, 2011 in Freetown. The consultative meeting was convened to validate the feasibility study for the creation of a CWP in the country.
