Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP – Med), legally and lawfully represented by the non-profit society MEDITERRANEAN INFORMATION OFFICE FOR ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT – MIO ECSDE announces the present call for offers for the Installation of the Second-Class Water System at St. Joseph Junior School, Sliema, Malta.
The Ministry of Development, Energy, and Water Resources, with the support of the GWP-Central African Republic Country Office, organized the national launch of the “National Response Strategy for Resilient Water Resource Management in the Central African Republic.” The significant event, which was held on December 20, 2024, at the Oubangui hotel, brought together some one hundred participants representing ministries, technical and financial partners, NGOs, and members of GWL thematic working groups.

Chad, Congo, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Sao Tome and Principe have completed the third round of reporting on indicator 6.5.1 of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which monitors the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
On September 6, 2024, the Global Water Partnership China (GWP China) hosted the "Research Conference on Energy Transition and Water Resources Management in Water-scarce Areas of China" at the Yingze Hotel in Taiyuan, capital city of Shanxi Province.
Between 2017 and 2023, global performance on implementing integrated water resources management (IWRM) increased from 49% to 57%. However, the current rate of progress would need to at least double in order to meet the 2030 goal on clean water and sanitation (SDG 6).
In Mid-July, 2025, GWP China, in collaboration with its local partner, the Hydrological Survey and Research Center of Hebei Province, has been making preparations for the establishment of the Groundwater Committee of Global Water Partnership China in Hebei Province. The Hydrological Survey and Research Center of Hebei Province will serve as the host institute for the Committee.
Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe, as a partner of the EU Horizon 2020 OPTAIN project, organized its 2023 Summer School for 21 selected MSc and PhD students and graduates, working in the field of water management. The selected students represented the countries of Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Iran, Kosovo, Lithuania, Norway, Philippines, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
On the occasion of this year’s World Water Day, devoted to “Water for Peace”, we are presenting the ‘origins story’ of the successful transboundary collaboration for the protection of the Drin river basin, between 5 Riparians in Southeast Europe. This started 25 years ago, out of a shared desire to protect Europe’s oldest lake, Ohrid.
