Creating a site, be it a microsite, regional or rethinking gwp.org should be approached methodically. This section provides some best practices and some very basic tools to help you through this proccess.
After you have identified your audience, and the content you know you must include it's time to design your site map.
(1) Assemble a library of all your key documents
(2) A report containing a list of all important documents and pages people link to on your current site
(3) Create a keyword report so you know what search terms people are using to find you
Researching your audience is critical when it comes to designing your website. You need to know who you are aiming to attract and what they are ultimately going to get from your website.
GWP.org can handle most languages with ease and a little adjustment by the admin. Automatic translations are available on every page in almost any language, however thse are tranlated by google and not by a real person, s they are not perfect. Most users have the ability to edit translations of the "real" page within the global site or their own regional or micro site.
Images need to be cropped and resized correctly or they will appear strangely on the website. If an image is in very high resolution, it will use a lot of memory from the system, and it will take more time to load the page. Make sure to use them in the relevant size.
Using "Dynamic Properties", we can set values, such as the site logo, strap line and right hand navigations for an entire section of the site.
A Page Template, is a pre defined page layout with set functionality in EpiServer. When you create a new page you wil usually (if there is a choice of more than one) be given a list of page templates to choose from. Here is a list of each page type and a general description of how and when to use each one.
Redirects is the name given when a user lands on one page but you want them to be taken to another automatically.
