Our Message on World Water Day 2011

March 22, 2011, STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Today thousands of people mark World Water Day. The annual Stockholm Water Prize laureate will be announced. The official United Nations three-day event will culminate in Cape Town, South Africa. Since the first one in 1993, this day focuses attention on the importance of sustainably managing the world’s freshwater resources.

Linking Climate Information Providers with Users

Further steps towards implementing a Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) were taken on 26-28 September 2011 in Rome at a meeting co-organised by FAO and WMO. The aim of the meeting was to develop a strategy for the agriculture and food security and water sectors of the User Interface Platform which is intended to link climate service providers and users with a view to “building the capacity of users to make better use of climate services, collecting users’ requirements, assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of the Framework and promoting a global understanding of the Framework”.

IWRM policy and roadmap for Guyana drafted by GWP Caribbean

GWP Caribbean offered to assist the Republic of Guyana in managing the country's water resources by developing an IWRM policy and roadmap, with the help of a consultant. Guyana has several existing policies which can be applied to water resources management; however, there is no single National Water Resources Management Policy for the country.

GWP-C Inspires Rainwater Harvesting Booth at International Building Expo in

Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), the national supplier of water and sanitation services in Guyana

and long-standing partner of Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) decided to focus its participation at the 2011 International Building Expo on educating thousands of Guyanese about the benefits of rainwater harvesting as a means of water conservation.

Water Stakeholders Focus on IWRM Implementation in Trinidad and Tobago

Representatives from government ministries, non-governmental organanisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) all convened on February 15th, 2012 for the 8th Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Stakeholder Meeting put on by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and the Water Resources Agency (WRA) of Trinidad and Tobago.

Workshop on Xiangjiang River Basin Management

The workshop on Xiangjiang River Basin Management, organized by GWP China Hunan, was held on November 24 -25, 2011 in Hengyang, Hunan Province with over 70 participants from governmental agencies, research institutions, universities and NGOs. Mr. Zheng Rugang, the Coordinator of GWP China, participated and made a speech on behalf of GWP China.
