The fifth National Training Workshop related to the implementation of the WACDEP Capacity Development Programme on the “Economics of Adaptation Water Security and Climate Resilience Development” was held in Maputo-Mozambique on the 09 - 10 April 2015, at the National Director of Water Affairs (DNA) premises. The opening was done by the Deputy National Director for Water, Mr. Hélio Banze.

The GWP Latin American International Water Law Training Programme held a successful VIII edition of a regional workshop with focus on La Plata Basin on 26-29 September. It was attended by 23 participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay, most of them from public institutions.

On 3 June 2020, during the Annual GWP Regional Days, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) signed a USD 2,184,555 Grant for Readiness Support to the Zambia National Adaptation Plan (NAP) on Climate Resilience. The Grant was signed by Dr Monika Weber Fahr, GWPO Executive Secretary and CEO and Pa Ousman Jarju, Director for the GCF Division of Country Programming.

Building water security and climate resilience into development activities is key to achieving long-term sustainability, but requires much higher levels of investment than at present. This policy brief presents innovative approaches to financing, which are needed to make sufficient funding available. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management. This brief was developed under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

“Water for Sustainable Growth” is the theme of the World Water Week 2016 organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) from 28 August to 2 September, in Stockholm.

Among the Week’s more than 140 events of different formats covering a range of subjects, the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) coordinates on 30 & 31 August, the “MENA Focus”, consisting of 4 separate sessions, each led by partners active in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Region.

Prof Amadou Hama Maiga has officially met with the staff of the regional secretariat on October 18 and 19 to exchange on ongoing matters. An opportunity for him to exchange deeply with the outgoing Executive Secretary Mr. Dam Mogbante and the incoming Mr. Armand Houyane who also came to Ouagadougou for that purpose.

IUCN-PACO organized from May 18 to 21, 2016 in Leo, Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the Volta Bassin Authority (VBA), and GWP / WA a workshop to develop the outline of the concept note on the conservation and restoring of conserving and restoring ecosystem functioning in the Volta basin.

The partnership operates under 7 thematic areas. These focus areas are in line with the overall GWP strategy and have been identified to address the various challenges in the water sector in Tanzania.
